Quality Assurance

Here in Australia, all our sheds and buildings certainly face some challenging weather conditions from extremes of heat and cold, to dust, rain, wind and hail.

And it’s for this reason that COLORBOND® steel is assessed at outdoor sites around Australia, as well as in accelerated laboratory testing. COLORBOND® steel undergoes corrosion testing, durability testing, application testing (to ensure it can be used in a wide range of building and manufacturing applications, and with all the common building products used across the industry) and outdoor exposure testing. As part of the assessment program, there are over 12,000 panels on exposure across Australia, ranging from moderate to very severe marine environments, and from tropical to industrial locations.

BlueScope’s assessment program for COLORBOND® steel is designed to replicate building applications in actual Australian conditions. By recreating actual building applications – including varying pitches, profiles, product types and the inclusion of unwashed areas – BlueScope’s assessment regime exceeds Australian testing standards for steel building products, giving a genuine understanding of how COLORBOND® steel will perform on real homes.

BlueScope Warranty

When you purchase COLORBOND® steel you are buying products made and backed by BlueScope, one of Australia’s largest manufacturers. BlueScope offers a variety of warranties subject to application and eligibility criteria. You can apply for a warranty using BlueScope’s online Warranty Management System at www.bluescopesteel.com.au/warranties

To make things simpler, BlueScope’s warranty system provides the opportunity for specifiers, builders or installers to receive a pre-approved warranty if eligibility criteria are met. They can then give you the activation code in the pre-approved warranty and you then simply create an account in the system and activate your warranty with your unique activation code. Please ask your specifier, builder or installer if they can manage this for you.

If you are concerned about a COLORBOND® steel product, please contact BlueScope. Their team is there to answer any questions you may have and if the issue cannot be resolved over the phone they may send out a Consumer Query Form to be filled out. Filling out, and sending back, the Consumer Query Form gives BlueScope the required information to begin assessing the matter and, if appropriate, one of their Warranty Claims Specialists may be sent out to undertake a site inspection.

More information is available on the BlueScope® and COLORBOND® websites.

FAQS

When choosing to invest in a shed, garage or other steel structure, the quality of the steel used in the manufacturing process is central to the structure’s strength, stability, durability, functionality and overall life-span. Australian steel offers superior quality over imported or weaker alternatives. Core to our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, all A-Line structures are manufactured with 100% Australian steel (BlueScope/COLORBOND), complimented with A-Line’s 30 Year Structural Guarantee.
COLORBOND® steel is durable, low-maintenance, and available in a wide range of colours. It’s built to withstand harsh Australian weather, making it a smart and long-lasting choice.
COLORBOND® steel requires minimal maintenance – the wash of natural rain water will help keep it looking good for many years. Areas not regularly washed by rain water, such as wall cladding under eaves, garage doors and the underside of eave gutters, should be hosed down at least every six months and more frequently in coastal areas. In cases where regular hosing does not remove all the dirt it is recommended to wash COLORBOND® steel with a mild solution of pure soap or non-abrasive dishwashing detergent in warm water. Washing should be done with a sponge, soft cloth or soft bristel nylon brush (no abrasive scourers, steel wool etc) and be performed gently to avoid scuffing. Thoroughly rinse the surface with fresh water immediately after to remove traces of detergent.
To make sure that you’re getting genuine COLORBOND® steel, it is recommended to look for the COLORBOND branding on the product or its packaging. For more information on where to find the brand visit the COLOROND website here.
You will receive a 10-year Warranty on the BlueScope/COLORBOND Steel materials that we use and a 30-year Structural Guarantee on our framing system.
BlueScope Steel does not recommend the use of touch up paints on COLORBOND® steel. The manufacturing process that gives COLORBOND® steel its colour and gloss retention properties means that the surface weathers differently to air-drying paint. After weathering, the areas which have been touched up will look different and can leave a blotchy look. For more information on this we recommend reading the BlueScope technical bulletin here.
